Day 1: Colombo - Negombo
Welcome to Sri Lanka. On arrival at Colombo's Bandaranaike International Airport, receive a VIP welcome from the moment you step off the aircraft. Your local representative will assist with a fast-track immigration service before accompanying you to the exclusive Silk Route Lounge, where you can relax with a cup of tea while your itinerary is introduced. Once your luggage has been delivered to the lounge, a private VIP transfer will take you directly to your waiting vehicle and onwards to your tranquil accommodation. The remainder of the day is at leisure to unwind amid the peaceful tropical gardens of your hotel.
Day 2: Negombo – Dambulla - Sigiriya (B)
After breakfast, depart with your private driver for Sigiriya, travelling through Sri Lanka's lush countryside. En route, visit the magnificent Dambulla Cave Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the island's most revered cultural treasures. Set within a dramatic rock outcrop, the five ancient caves are adorned with exquisite murals and more than 150 Buddha statues. The extraordinary detail and vibrant colours of the paintings provide a fascinating insight into Sri Lanka's Buddhist heritage. Continue to Sigiriya and your elegant retreat, nestled in the heart of the Cultural Triangle.
Day 3: Sigiriya – Minneriya – Sigiriya (B)
An early start is recommended for a guided ascent of the legendary Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Rising 180 metres above the surrounding plains, this extraordinary fifth-century citadel was once a royal palace and later a Buddhist monastery. Ascend through the ancient rock complex to discover its remarkable frescoes, gardens and dramatic summit, where panoramic views stretch across the surrounding countryside.
This afternoon, venture into the wilderness on a private wildlife safari. Your destination will be selected according to the latest elephant movements, providing the best opportunity to encounter Sri Lanka's magnificent wild elephants in their natural habitat. Return to your secluded retreat in the evening.
Day 4: Sigiriya – Matale – Kandy (B)
Today, journey towards Kandy with a memorable stop at an exclusive spice and fruit garden. Meet the German-born farmer who has made Sri Lanka his home for four decades and be introduced to the cultivation of the island's fragrant spices, tropical fruits and other crops. Following a private guided walk through the gardens, sit down to a home-cooked lunch prepared using fresh local ingredients. Continue to Kandy, Sri Lanka's cultural capital and a city surrounded by misty hills. Following time to settle into your luxurious hotel, take a guided walk beside Kandy Lake before witnessing the fascinating Thevava ritual ceremony at the sacred Temple of the Tooth, one of the country's most important Buddhist sites.
Day 5: Kandy – Ella (B)
Transfer to the railway station for one of Sri Lanka's most scenic journeys. Settle aboard the train and watch the landscape transform as the route climbs through emerald-green tea plantations, mist-shrouded mountains and picturesque hill villages.
On arrival in the Ella region, your private driver will be waiting with your luggage for the transfer to 98 Acres Resort, a tranquil boutique retreat surrounded by lush tea country. The remainder of the day is at leisure to relax amid the tranquillity of the resort.
Day 6: Ella (BL)
This morning, travel to Amba Estate for a guided walk through the beautiful countryside to a secluded waterfall and natural swimming pool. There will be time to cool off in the crystal-clear waters before continuing to discover the traditions of Ceylon tea during a guided visit to an organic tea farm. The experience culminates with a delicious farmhouse meal prepared using local produce, offering an authentic taste of rural Sri Lankan life. Return to 98 Acres Resort during the afternoon, with time to relax in the peaceful surroundings of your private estate.
Day 7: Ella – Yala (B)
Leave the highlands behind as you travel south towards Yala, a region renowned for its extraordinary concentration of wildlife. Arrive at your lodge, set deep in the untamed wilderness of Yala. Following time to settle in, venture into the surrounding national park on a private wildlife safari. Keep watch for elephants, sloth bears, crocodiles, deer and wild boar, with the elusive leopard among the most coveted sightings. Return to the lodge as the wilderness settles into the evening.
Day 8: Yala (B)
Rise early for a three-hour safari into Yala National Park, accompanied by an experienced local naturalist. The early morning offers exceptional opportunities for wildlife sightings as the park awakens, with your guide sharing insights into the behaviour and habitat of its remarkable inhabitants. Return to the lodge for a leisurely afternoon surrounded by the sights and sounds of the wilderness.
Day 9: Yala – Galle (B)
Travel towards the historic coastal city of Galle, with a fascinating stop en route at a working cinnamon plantation. Discover the cultivation and traditional processing of one of Sri Lanka's most prized spices before continuing towards the coast.
Arrive in Galle and settle into the atmospheric Galle Fort Printers Hotel, a former printing house in the heart of the heritage listed Galle Fort, now a quiet hotel filled with character. The remainder of the day is at leisure to wander through the atmospheric lanes of Galle Fort, browse its galleries and boutiques, or relax at your hotel.
Day 10: Galle (B)
Today brings an intimate introduction to the flavours and traditions of Sri Lankan cuisine. Accompanied by your chef, visit a local market to select fresh ingredients before travelling to a rural village on the banks of the Kapu Ela River.
On arrival, receive a traditional Sri Lankan welcome before settling into a rustic mud hut for your private cooking experience. Learn the secrets behind authentic local dishes, sampling the flavours as you prepare them, before sitting down to a magnificent feast of eight dishes served traditionally on a lotus leaf.
Return to the Fort Printers during the afternoon. Later, join your private guide for a fascinating walking tour through the 17th-century fortifications. Day 11: Galle – Airport (B)

• Dry Days: Sri Lanka observes several religious holidays throughout the year, including Poya Days (full moon days), which are recognized as Public, Bank, and Mercantile Holidays. These are referred to as “dry days”, during which the sale of alcoholic beverages is prohibited in shops, hotels, and restaurants and wine stores, taverns, and bars are closed.
• Poya Days: Occur monthly on the full moon. Many shops and businesses close, and public services may be limited.
• Hindu & Buddhist Festivals: Dates are determined by local astronomical observations, making them difficult to predict in advance. These festivals may affect local transport, business hours, and access to certain sites.
• Muslim Festivals: Dates are based on local moon sightings and may vary. During Ramadan, Muslims fast during the day and feast at night. While business hours may be affected, Sri Lanka’s predominantly non-Muslim population means disruptions for travellers are generally minimal.
Sightseeing
All sightseeing normally requires a moderate amount of walking around historical / cultural sites. A good level of fitness will ensure you get a maximum enjoyment from your visit.
Social Conventions
Sri Lanka’s genuine hospitality to tourists is renowned. Take care to avoid religious offence, however. Respect the Buddhist faith: do not touch a monk, do not pose for photographs on religious statues, be mindful not to turn your back on Buddha statues when taking photos and avoid touching religious artifacts. Always seek permission before photographing individuals, especially monks, as a gesture of respect.
