Day 1: Colombo - Negombo
Welcome to Sri Lanka. Upon arrival into Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport a local operator will be waiting for you the moment you step off the plane. They will assist you through a fast-tracked immigration process and take you to the Silk Route Lounge where a representative will talk you through your itinerary while you have a cup of tea. Once your luggage is delivered to the lounge you will take a VIP route to your private vehicle for your transfer to your accommodation. The remainder of the day is at leisure to relax or explore the coastal town.
Day 2: Negombo – Dambulla - Sigiriya (B)
This morning you will be driven by private vehicle to Sigiriya, stopping en route for a guided tour of the UNESCO listed Dambulla Golden Temple and Cave Complex. An icon of Sri Lanka, the Dambulla Rock Temple houses remarkably unique drawings in five magnificently constructed cave temples. Each exquisite cave painting is done along walls that also shelter 150 statues of Lord Buddha. As you enter the retreat look straight up to the gigantic Buddha statue glittering in gold over the beautiful landscape.
Upon arrived in Sigiriya, you will be assisted with check in and have the remainder of the day at leisure. Overnight Sigiriya.
Day 3: Sigiriya (B)
An early start is recommended today as you embark on a guided climb up the 180m high Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Built atop a huge boulder in the 5th century, this imposing monument has at various times been a palace, a hidden castle, and a Buddhist monastery. The view from the top is simply breath-taking.
The afternoon is just as unforgettable with a private wildlife safari through one of the local national parks to seek out herds of wild elephants. The particular park will be chosen on the day based on movements of the elephant population. You will be returned to your hotel in the evening. Overnight Sigiriya.
Day 4: Sigiriya – Kandy (BL)
Today you will be driven to Kandy, stopping en route for an exclusive herbal, spice, and fruit garden experience, hosted by a German farmer who has lived in the area for four decades. Following an educational walk through the various crops, join him for a home cooked lunch. Later, continue to Kandy, the cultural heart of Sri Lanka. After checking in there will be some time to refresh, prior to embarking on a guided walking tour around Kandy Lake, including the fascinating Thevava ritual ceremony at the sacred Temple of the Tooth.
Day 5: Kandy – Ella (B)
Another day to remember as you are transferred to the train station to embark on a train trip through stunning high country tea plantations. Upon arrival, your driver will be waiting for you with your luggage and will transport you to your hotel for the remainder of the day at leisure.
Day 6: Ella (BL)
This morning you will be taken to Amba Estate for a guide walk to a beautiful waterfall where you will have an opportunity to swim in the refreshing and crystal-clear waters of the natural pool. After this you will be guided on a tour through an organic Ceylon tea farm, culminating with a farmhouse meal. Mid-afternoon you will be returned to your resort with the remainder of the day at leisure.
Day 7: Ella – Yala (B)
This morning you will be transferred to the fascinating Yala area – home to much of Sri Lanka’s wildlife. After checking in to your lodge and a chance to freshen up, you will depart for an unforgettable wildlife safari. Your wildlife guide will help you to look out for sloth bears, crocodiles, deer, wild boar, and, if you are lucky, maybe even a leopard.
Day 8: Yala (B)
An early start today allows you to experience the morning shift of animals in the incredible Yala National Park. Your three-hour safari will be guided by a local naturalist who will ensure you have the best chance of seeing as many of the park’s inhabitants as possible. At the conclusion of the safari, you will be returned to your accommodation for an afternoon of leisure.
Day 9: Yala – Galle (B)
This morning your driver will take you to Galle, stopping on the way for a hosted walk through a cinnamon plantation. Once you arrive in Galle, the day is at leisure to explore the 17th Century fort town as you see fit or simply relax at your accommodation.
Day 10: Galle (BL)
A day for the foodies today as you are taken to a local market to shop for supplies before meeting your chef and being driven to a rural village on the banks of the Kapu Ela River. Here you will be welcomed with a refreshing drink to help you feel at home in a traditional mud hut. Once settled, you will learn how to cook local dishes, sampling as you go, and culminating with a feast of eight dishes served in a lotus leaf. After returning to your hotel to freshen up, embark on a guided walking tour of the magnificent 17th Century Galle Fort. Your guide will help you navigate the pathways of this “living” fort, helping you to discover cafes, locals, and charming old houses. Return to the hotel early evening.
Day 11: Galle (B)
One last chance to explore or simply relax and reflect on your time in Sri Lanka before you are transferred to the airport for your onward flight.

Holiday Periods & Cultural Observances in Sri Lanka
Please note: Rates are not valid during public or religious holidays. Availability of services may be limited during these periods. When planning your visit to Sri Lanka, it’s important to be aware of local holidays and cultural practices that may affect travel plans, business hours, and services.
• Dry Days: Sri Lanka observes several religious holidays throughout the year, including Poya Days (full moon days), which are recognized as Public, Bank, and Mercantile Holidays. These are referred to as “dry days”, during which the sale of alcoholic beverages is prohibited in shops, hotels, and restaurants and wine stores, taverns, and bars are closed.
• Poya Days: Occur monthly on the full moon. Many shops and businesses close, and public services may be limited.
• Hindu & Buddhist Festivals: Dates are determined by local astronomical observations, making them difficult to predict in advance. These festivals may affect local transport, business hours, and access to certain sites.
• Muslim Festivals: Dates are based on local moon sightings and may vary. During Ramadan, Muslims fast during the day and feast at night. While business hours may be affected, Sri Lanka’s predominantly non-Muslim population means disruptions for travellers are generally minimal.
Sightseeing
All sightseeing normally requires a moderate amount of walking around historical / cultural sites. A good level of fitness will ensure you get a maximum enjoyment from your visit.
