A comprehensive 4-day journey through the captivating landscapes and historic wonders of Jordan, commencing in Amman and concluding at either the Araba border or Aqaba, with the flexibility to return to Amman if preferred. This tour encompasses the best of Jordan's treasures, including visits to Jerash and Ajloun Castle, a scenic drive along the Kings Way, taking in Madaba, Mount Nebo, the picturesque Wadi Mujib, and the imposing Kerak Crusader Castle. Immerse yourself in the splendour of Petra, the Rose Red City, and venture into the enchanting Wadi Rum Desert, with its surreal landscape.

Day 1: Amman – Jerash – Ajloun – Amman

On arrival you will be met by a representative of our local operator and then transferred to join your tour in Amman. Drive to Jerash, the best-preserved city of Roman times, to visit its theatres, temples, churches and colonnaded streets. Then continue to Ajloun to tour the 12th century Saracen Castle built by one of Saladin’s lieutenants in the campaign against the Crusaders.

Day 2: Amman – Kings’ Way – Kerak – Petra (B)

Drive southwards along the Kings’ Way to Petra, visiting Madaba with the oldest map of the Holy Land, and its Mosaic School, Mt. Nebo and the alleged burial site of Moses overlooking the Dead Sea and the Jordan Valley; then drive through the magnificent scenery of Wadi Mujib to Kerak to visit the Crusader Castle (stop for optional lunch).

Day 3: Petra (B)

A full day to visit the many sites of Petra, this city that was carved into the rose-red Sharah Mountains by the Nabateans and lost to Civilization until re-discovered by the Swiss Burkhardt. Walk through the Siq, a narrow and winding fissure between the cliffs, to reach the Treasury, the Roman Theater, the Courts, Qasr Bint Pharaoun, Temple of the Winged Lion and other monuments. A break for optional lunch, or you may wish to climb up to the Monastery.

Day 4: Petra – Wadi Rum – Aqaba (B)

Visit the Wadi Rum Desert (a short ride in 4x4 vehicle) with its awesome moon-like landscape, where the movie “Lawrence of Arabia” was filmed. Continue to either Aqaba for a day or two at the Beach (optional extensions available on request) or to the Arava border, assistance with departure formalities provided. Option also available for return to Amman with no surcharge.

Flexi-Holidays
On all “flexi-holiday” itineraries (including the Royal Jordan tour) touring is made by private air-conditioned car with an English speaking driver. The journey from Amman to Petra or vv is with a private driver only. Local guides are provided in Petra and Jerash. The quality of assigned local guides may vary, due to Jordanian Government selection procedures, and is beyond the control of Ancient Kingdoms Holidays and their local representatives Jordan Circle Tours.
 

Petra
In Petra, the entrance fee includes free access to brochures & maps, a horse ride from the gate to the Siq and 3 hours guided tour. A horse and carriage is available within the Siq - this is booked and paid locally. Tips for horsemen and guides not included.

Dead Sea 
When travelling to the Dead Sea from Amman, remember to take your passport as there is a security stop enroute where it will need to be produced.

Wadi Rum
The Desert camps, although permanent campsites, have basic infrastructure and facilities. The standard of accommodation will be lower than that experienced in a hotel.

Visa on arrival in Jordan
For New Zealand & Australian passport holders staying more than 2 nights in Jordan, visa upon arrival can be organised by our local representative. Visa's can be also pre organised by our local representative for clients arrival into Jordan at Amman Airport, when arriving from Israel at Sheikh Hussein bridge or Arava Borders. For clients arriving from Israel via Allenby Bridge (also known as King Hussein Bridge), visa need to be pre-organised (and prepaid) prior to arrival.

Ramadan
During the Holy Month of Ramadan Muslims fast, abstaining from eating, drinking & smoking during daylight hours (approx. 7am-6.30pm). As a sign of respect, tourists should also try to refrain from these activities in public during the fasting hours. After 30 days, or on sighting the full moon, Eid Al Fitr is celebrated & most public and private institutions close for at least three days. During this period hotels may not serve alcohol during daylight hours or at all. Entertainment such as belly dancing may also not be available over this period in particular on the Desert Safari.
